HALF TERM MUSIC SCHOOL
WHAT IS IT?
The inaugural Half Term Music School offers music students of different ages and abilities the opportunity to work with music education specialists from around the world in a four day intensive. The course helps student learn new skills, develops their musical proficiency in an inspiring and enjoyable learning environment.
WHERE IS IT?
The camp will be held at the Cambridge Steiner School, Hinton Road, Fulbourn CB21 5DZ.
WHAT IS ON OFFER?
The school offers two distinct sessions:
Session One 9am-12:30pm
This session will be open to string and woodwind (including recorder) students aged 6-13. It will focus on developing technical and ensemble skills, and is suitable those students who are approximately Grade 1 - Grade 4 standard. Each day will begin with choir, followed by a large orchestral rehearsal, and finishing with specialist tutorials for each instrument group. The students will prepare a program of music, which will be performed at an informal concert on Thursday afternoon. NB: It is possible for students to only attend the choir rehearsal each day at a reduced rate.
Session Two 1:30pm-4:30pm:This session will be open to string and woodwind students aged 13+ who are studying at Grade 5 and above. It offers the unique opportunity to learn and experience Historically Informed Performance from internationally trained performers and pedagogues. The students will form a small orchestra (Concerto Grossostyle), and will rehearse a program of works spanning a wide range of baroque styles. Students will learn how to play with authentic baroque technique, focusing on specific bowing and articulation practice, as well as phrasing and the conception of baroque works. Students will perform their program at a concert on Thursday afternoon. Students will also be able to attend lectures and master classes with baroque specialists, who will discuss specific aspects of historical performance, as it pertains to different instrument groups.

WHAT IS THE COST?
The cost of the camp is £60 per student for either session. Families with more than one child enrolled in the school may take 50% off for each additional child. For students who wish to only take part in the morning choir session the cost is £20 for the school.
